Launched in October 2021, That Wine Is Mine (TWIM) is an online platform to discover natural wine. Steadily rising in popularity among the younger generation, natural wine is made from organically-grown grapes fermented in naturally occurring yeasts—the taste is often described as alive, clean, and delicious. Unlike conventional wine-making, natural wine has a low-intervention production process which makes it healthier and more sustainable. It’s no wonder that the finest restaurants and wine bars in Singapore have started to offer these tasty bottles.
Consumers can now enjoy natural wine in the comforts of their homes. Seeking to demystify the world of natural wine, TWIM makes the experience of acquiring bottles fun, accessible and fuss-free. There is no fancy wine vocabulary or a mind-boggling array of options. Instead, TWIM simplifies the process through curated box sets that gather only the best— fit for novices or seasoned drinkers. Bottles that make the final cut undergo rounds of tastings to ensure quality. In the same vein, the website has been designed to ensure that the experience of acquiring bottles is as effortless as enjoying them.
There are three box sets available: Classic, Groovy, and Glou Glou — designed to fit one’s mood and taste preferences. The Classic set is a great introduction to the world of natural wines, with quintessential notes that wine drinkers can identify with and more. Groovy set is the party mix made for that fabulous playlist stashed in Spotify for the best parties. Glou Glou features a light and refreshing line-up that is incredibly drinkable — the name is an onomatopoeic term inspired by the sound of wine racing down the throat.
There is a story behind every bottle, sourced from a growing wave of thoughtful young farmers and producers who have taken over commercial wineries to create new natural labels that stay true to the essence of the grapes and the terroir. Bottles are made in small-batch, responsible productions that result in limited quantities. Once they are sold out, the sets are refreshed so that customers can discover new and rare flavours regularly.
The same meticulous attention goes into the packaging to ensure that the bottles reach customers in the perfect condition. The wines are delivered in custom-designed boxes adorned with delightful wine characters on the cover and wrapping, complete with colourful coasters, drinking notes, and a personal card from TWIM. Free delivery is available for all orders, which are delivered on the same day—if the orders are placed before 3 pm. TWIM is the perfect gift for that wine-loving friend and the joyous parties to come during this festive season.
Ultimately, TWIM hopes to convey that one does not require accumulated consciousness or advanced skillsets to enjoy fermented grape juice. “Wine is meant to be enjoyed in a context of relaxation and friendship,” says co-founder Raquel Takahashi who hopes that TWIM becomes a site to discover the best of nature and help customers find their palate. “The best expert on each bottle is the person drinking it: Drink what you love and enjoy it,” she adds.
The story of TWIM is rooted in the friendship of its four co-founders: Raquel Takahashi, Hisamizu Takahashi, Amaris Chen, and Yaw Bin Hua, who are passionate about sharing their joy and knowledge on natural wine.
Previous owners of restaurant Rizu in Duxton Hill, Singapore, Hisamizu and Raquel Takahashi, developed a passion for natural wine as they were running the restaurant. Raquel was a Singaporean bakery franchisee in Sri Lanka, and Hisamizu has over 12 years of experience in pharmaceuticals.
Amaris Chen and Yaw Bin Hua are founders of branding and design studio Restless. they are responsible for the branding of renowned fine-dining restaurants and lifestyle groups, including Nouri, Cloudstreet, and Mandala Club. Their numerous encounters with sommeliers have cultivated an inevitable love for natural wine.
