Singapore’s love for Korean food continues to grow with the opening of Seoul Noodle Shop, the city’s first restaurant dedicated to traditional Korean kalguksu (knife-cut noodles). Helmed by renowned Korean celebrity chefs Lee Won-il and Hong Seok Cheon, this new restaurant brings authentic Korean flavors to the heart of Tanjong Pagar, Singapore’s unofficial “Korea Town.”
Authentic Korean Kalguksu by Celebrity Chefs
Seoul Noodle Shop first captured the attention of Singaporeans as a pop-up at Tanglin Mall’s Market Blue. Due to its overwhelming popularity, the restaurant has now launched its first full-scale outlet in Tanjong Pagar, offering a dedicated space for diners to enjoy its famous kalguksu. Another branch is set to open in Suntec City in October 2024.
Chef Lee Won-il, known for his appearances on popular Korean TV shows like Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, was present at the grand opening, personally serving customers and overseeing operations. His partner, Chef Hong Seok Cheon, is a celebrated chef and restaurateur in Korea, known for his successful restaurants in Itaewon and frequent appearances on shows like Running Man.
Must-Try Dishes at Seoul Noodle Shop
The menu at Seoul Noodle Shop features 12 varieties of kalguksu alongside a selection of popular Korean dishes. Each bowl is crafted with freshly made noodles, accompanied by handmade kimchi and flavorful side dishes like pickled radish and doenjang dupbap (soybean paste rice).
A signature dish is the pork bone spicy noodle soup ($20.50), featuring tender, fall-off-the-bone pork in a hearty broth, reminiscent of Korea’s gamjatang soup. Other standout options include the beef-based Yukgaejang noodles ($18.50) for spice lovers and the dry bibim noodles ($16.50) tossed in a special sauce. For a unique fusion dish, try the Singapore-exclusive Busan shrimp noodles ($20.50), blending local prawn noodle flavors with Busan’s seafood noodle soup traditions.
Tips for Enjoying Seoul Noodle Shop
For the best experience, it’s recommended to enjoy the noodles while they’re fresh and bouncy. Portions are generous, so come with an appetite. Don’t miss the add-ons like kimchi dumplings ($5 for three pieces) or mini gimbap ($3 for six pieces). Pair your meal with a refreshing makgeolli ade ($17.80) or the non-alcoholic yuja ade ($4.80) for a complete Korean dining experience.
