A few decades ago, Singapore’s pizza scenery was laden only with the popularity of commercial giants such as Pizza Hut and Shakey’s. Fast forward to today, the Singaporean taste for the Italian classic has somehow elevated from the prominent ones to those that are more personally crafted. These pizzas have emerged in fame and have proliferated the streets of breakfast, lunch, and supper time Singapore. Below are the most raved about pizza joints in the country.

Pizza

BlueLabel Pizza & Wine

It’s the staccato of every little nice thing that makes this restaurant a crowd favourite in Singapore – 70s to the 80s playlist, warm lights, chill ambience, and above all, a well-crafted menu that defies the mediocre. On the menu is the store’s famed long-ferment pizza dough cooked in a stone-fired roaster. Among the bestsellers are the Umami Bomb (fresh shitake mushrooms, spinach, goat cheese, lemon, and anchovies) at SGD 31.00, the J-Dog (bacon, pepperoni, jalapeno, sausage, and red sauce) at SGD 39.00, and the Blue Label Special (price varies) – a concoction made with the day’s harvest of fresh ingredients in inventive twists. The possibilities are boundless and each takes customers into deep gastronomic heights.

Cicheti

Although Cicheti’s pizza dough may seem simple with just 4 ingredients – salt, flour, yeast, and water, it is the store’s leavening process that separates it from the other pizza houses in Singapore. The dough is fermented for three days leaving each crust with the perfect texture of lightness and crispness. Their pizza comes from manually milled tomatoes that give it a more robust flavour. Since its opening in 2013, Cicheti has graced the Singaporean taste buds with exceptional pizza flavours such as the Neapolitan (home-made tomato sauce, anchovies, oregano, basil, garlic, olives) at SGD 18.00, Margherita di Bufala (home-made tomato sauce, basil, Il Parco bufala, parmesan) at SGD 24.00, and the Quattro Formaggi (fontina, parmesan, gorgonzola, fior di latte), among others.

Acqua E Farina

Aqua E Farina translates to water and flour – probably the 2 most important ingredients in coming up with a great pizza crust. True to its name, this little quaint store boasts of both red (tomato base) and white (cheese base) pizzas with Pizza Tartufo as its all-time best-seller. This classic pleaser is topped with mascarpone cheese, mozzarella, roasted wild mushrooms, and shaved slices of real black truffles. No wonder it has always captured the hearts (and bellies) of many Singaporeans who enjoy the luxury feel and earthy taste of truffles.
