Gardens by the Bay is the backdrop once again for one of Singapore's most spectacular horticultural events. The Singapore Garden Festival 2026 runs across two weekends this April and brings together landscape designers, floral artists, and botanical specialists from more than 20 countries for a showcase that has no real equivalent in Southeast Asia.
This year's theme, "Roots and Routes," draws on Singapore's botanical history — from the colonial-era Botanic Gardens to the city-state's modern push toward biophilic urban design. Installations range from sprawling meadow landscapes at the Flower Dome to intimate sculptural works tucked into the outdoor gardens around the Supertree Grove.
Among the highlights is a centrepiece installation by Japanese landscape architect Tokujin Yoshioka, who has created a suspended canopy of 40,000 preserved botanical specimens that shifts colour as light conditions change throughout the day. It is best experienced at dusk, when the warm ambient lighting from the Supertrees catches the dried petals and seed pods from below.
The Festival Garden competition — always fiercely contested — features 14 entries this year from teams in Singapore, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Netherlands, and Taiwan. Local studio Tierra Design is among the favourites, with a garden that interprets the mangrove ecosystem using reclaimed timber and native coastal plants.
For families, a dedicated Children's Wondergarden has been set up in the outdoor gardens, with interactive planting stations, sensory trails, and a pop-up butterfly enclosure that houses over 500 live specimens. Weekend guided walks are available at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM and are free with festival admission.
Food and beverage vendors from local brands including Jewel Coffee, Tiong Bahru Bakery, and Fowlboys have set up stalls along the festival perimeter, making it easy to extend a morning visit into a full day out. Evening sessions on Friday and Saturday nights include a light-and-sound programme that transforms the Flower Dome into an immersive botanical theatre.
Tickets are priced at $28 for adults and $15 for children, with concession rates available. Pre-booking online is strongly recommended as weekend sessions have sold out in previous years.
